Usage areas of leaded batteries are classified as self-moving, mobile and stationary. They are made in different ways according to this classification. Self-propelled ones are used in cars and trucks to give the engine the first move. The mobile ones are used to run trams and locomotives in mines, and to provide the necessary power for ventilation and lighting systems in trains. In these, the positive plates are thicker. Because they are loaded and unloaded very frequently, the loss of active substance is large.
Third class non-stationary batteries are used to supply electrical power in hospitals, telephone exchanges, railway signal centers and many places where a backup power is needed. Longevity is important in this species. Volume and weight are secondary.
